Generate 100 Customers with Realistic Data
Let's create some test data that would look believable in a system presentation to potential customers. We can edit the Insert Data scenario that we created earlier.
- Close all dialogs to return to the TurboData primary window.
- Delete all the customers on the database. (See previous tutorial.)
- Press the Insert Data tab.
- Double click on the 'Create Customers' scenario to edit it.
- On the right tree, expand the Customer table to show it's columns by pressing the '+' next to it.
- Select the Column 'First Name'

- Select the option Set Generated Value to Read from Other Source.
- Press the
push button next to it to open the Alternate Data Source dialog.

- Set the Source of Values option to Generic Value.
- Select the Location tab. Press the
push button next to the Value Category field to open the Select Generic Value dialog.

- Double Click on 'First Names Female' in the top grid.
- Press OK to close the Alternate Data Source dialog. An extra node will appear below the 'First Name' column showing that it's data will be read from the Category: First Names Female.
- Repeat the above few steps to select the 'Last Names' category for the Last Name column and the 'Cities in Ontario' category for the City Column.

- Press the Generate push button to open the Generate SQL dialog
- Click on the Update Database option
- Press the Generate push button to Generate the data and automatically load it on to the target database.
- Press the View Data on Target DB push button to open the Edit Data dialog. Select Customer from the Table drop down list, and you will see 100 Customers have been created with much more realistic test data.
