Overriding Column Data Generation Rules

The default generated test data is very useful for quickly populating tables with data. However, it is often desirable to have specific values on a column. For example, a new Customer may require the status to be set to 'L' for Live, or a flag to be set to 'Y' or 'N'.

Columns with generation rules are shown in bold, excluded columns are in italics, foreign keys are red.

You can use TurboData to override the default test data in a number of different ways including the following;

• Always use a constant user entered value
• Pick a value from an alternate data source at random
• Pick a value from an alternate data source in sequential order
• Set an optional column to null
• Ensure that only unique values will be used (for this range of test data)
• Exclude this column for test data generation
• Create test data with random characters.
• Write your own VBScript to create data in any format you want.
